Microsoft needed a new interactive training experience to replace the existing orientation course. Metia designed and developed the Welcome Experience.
Users can access all materials from anywhere in the world, including a personal welcome from senior executives such as Steve Ballmer himself. And what's more, the solution is supported by a real-time CMS while the Silverlight interface and media Smooth Streaming ensures a consistent experience.
In addition to the benefits of expanding reach to 100% of new hires and reducing costs by some 65% over previous programs, Microsoft’s SMSG Welcome Experience is built upon the technologies these employees have been hired to market and sell to customers as solutions, providing a unique perspective and advantage to them in the marketplace.
Metia had to match diverse functionality with ease-of-use – not just for users but for site administrators. The development team custom-built an administration tool using ASP .NET and Microsoft SQL Server. This provides a central interface for viewing, adding and editing content. It also includes tools for managing features such as closed captions.
The program delivered a $2 million reduction in the annual cost of training, significantly reduced the carbon footprint of the original training program, and won a Microsoft Stevie award.
